Introduction

Uboux began by providing WiFi for businesses. But as their tech evolved, so did their ambition.

The company set out to advance WiFi connectivity, integrating its flagship Captive Portal product with customer engagement and digital retail tools.

Unifying the brand experience

As Uboux’s offerings expanded, it was important for the brand to appeal to big operators and have a scalable design system for its growing product ecosystem.

High signal at any size

The refined logo draws strength from a sharp and confident visual language, designed to support its growing ambitions.

Colours for clean, modern and accessible interfaces

Monochrome shades with blue accents keeps the palette lightweight, while reinforcing brand recognition.

A typeface for clarity and performance

Inter was chosen for adaptability across screen sizes, with multiple weights to define hierarchy and support readability.

Designed to scale fast

The design system was built using atomic design principles for consistency, scalability and fast implementation across platforms.

Captive Portal

A Captive Portal is the gateway users encounter before connecting to WiFi. Using this moment to do more than just connect, the redesign focused on creating an engaging touchpoint that's both intuitive for users and valuable for businesses.

UX Outcomes
  • Multiple authentication options for a seamless login experience

  • Merchant ad placement without disrupting the flow

  • Provide user rewards while maintaining easy access to eMenus

Streamlined compliance

The modal popup enables users to quickly review and accept various legal policies through tabbed navigation.

Promotions were prioritised visually, allowing multiple deals or events to surface through auto-playing carousels.

Making logging in easy worldwide

Various social login options were implemented to support both local and international users, based on platform popularity across regions.

Working around common data gaps

Certain data isn't always captured correctly during the process. For users that opt to sign in with passwords or social media accounts where data can't be captured, this step was implemented to gather information required.

Promoting while connecting

The carousel allows additional ads to run while users are establishing a connection to their WiFi network.

Evoking delight with automated rewards

With rewards, users can receive coupons, special deals and invitations to events by signing into the network.

Businesses can manage and set coupons based on age, gender, time or date in the Merchant Portal.

Digital menus for connected users

The eMenu is an e-commerce extension of the Captive Portal, turning WiFi access into a seamless ordering experience.

eMenu MVP

Core user journeys were mapped across onboarding, discovery, ordering and post-purchase interactions, creating a familiar and intuitive experience while establishing a foundation for future product development.
